A journey of discovery of contemporary Foligno

Arte da Inciampo

An idea that has important roots

The project is inspired by German artist Gunter Demnig’s initiative called “Stumbling Stones.” It aims to leave, in the urban and social fabric of many European cities, a memory widespread of citizens deported to the extermination camps nazis. In the cities’ road pavements, in front of the last homes of deportation victims, were laid stone blocks covered with a brass plate, with the biographical data of the person deported and the date of his death, if known.

Enjoying art 365 days per year

We are all caught up in the speed of our time. We can no longer look at a work of art placed in the busy streets of our cities; let alone lift our heads and read a descriptive panel. Here, then, is Art to Stumble Upon: in the middle of the city pavement a visual marker, impossible to miss, points out the works scattered throughout the historic center of Foligno, or just outside. Slabs of different colors, materials and textures have the task of drawing attention “under the shoes” of citizens and visitors, in a figurative sense “to be tripped over.”
